IN THE CAR: Ask your child what they learned about this week on the drive home: Today we read the story of Jonah. When Jonah ran away from God, a fish came and swallowed him up until Jonah came to his senses. We learned that when God calls us we should be faithful to answer. Jonah 1 & 2, Jonah and the Fish

HANGING OUT: Make this week’s lesson real: When you call to your kids this week, and they don’t listen, remind them gently what happened when Jonah chose not to obey God. (For effect, start humming the Jaws theme;)

AT DINNER: Here are some great discussion starters:
- Why did Jonah run the other way when God sent him to Nineveh?
- How did God get Jonah turned around?
- What should we do when God sends us in one direction?

AT BEDTIME: Quiz your child on this week’s memory verse: “Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.” Psalm 34:11 (NIV)

PARENT TIME: What you need to know: God has a plan and purpose for all of our lives, and only we can fulfill that plan. Pray for God to reveal his calling for each of your family members, and pray that you will all have the faith needed to follow God’s lead.

HANGING OUT: Make this week’s lesson real: Share some stories about your dad this week. Share some silly stories and some serious stories about your dad with your kids.

AT DINNER: Here are some great discussion starters: This week let the kids ask Dad a few questions.
- What’s the best advice your Dad ever gave you?
- What’s something funny that you did with your Dad?
- How can we thank you for being our Dad?

AT BEDTIME: Quiz your child on this week’s memory verse: “Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction.” - Proverbs 1:8A (NIV)

PARENT TIME: What you need to know: If you are able, call your Dad and tell him you love him. Thank God for the gift of fathers this week, and thank God for being your Heavenly Father.

When Daniel was caught praying to God, he was thrown into a den of hungry lions but God protected him. We can trust God to protect us just as he did for Daniel. HANGING OUT: Make this week’s lesson real: Take a walk around the house, and look for all the safety devices and features that are there to protect you and the family. Can anyone think of a time God also stepped in to be your protector?

- How do you think God protects us every day?

Three young men were thrown into a fiery furnace for standing up for God, but God stood with them and saved them. We can trust God to stand with us when we stand up for Him. HANGING OUT: Make this week’s lesson real: Do you see a lot of people standing up for the wrong thing online or in your community? Share it with your kids. Let them see what that kind of pressure is like. Ask them how we can find the courage to stand for what’s right when we face such opposition.
